Ever since my first viewing of Food Inc., my view—literally—of food has changed. Upon seeing a hamburger, an almost surreal vision ensues; I see a slaughtered cow, transgenic vegetables, and two slabs of something that could be considered bread. The men in white coats operating on this food within these visions are, truly, the most bizarre aspect.
I’ve never enjoyed preaching and especially when that preaching concerns the United States in particular. However, this is an issue that I do find disturbing and inexcusable. Will I buy an organic, free-range chicken for $9 more? No. Knowing is the first battle. Perhaps when this issue is greatly publicized, wide-spread changes may become easier. But, for now, this issue has to be tackled realistically, in that the general public must become more aware.

I agree with carl on this. I don't think I'll ever view certain foods the same. Ecspecially fast food, the places the meats come from are absolutely despicable. I enjoy how you describe your vision as well carl.
ReplyDeleteI also agree with carl. Some foods have no become uneatable in my mind. Like Mitch, my view of fast food has now changed drastically. Carl, I would like to take a moment and comment on how well this blog written. Upon reading this, a tiny tear formed in my eye.
ReplyDeleteI agree, not many people are aware of where their food comes from. Most people would buy a hamburger at McDonalds and not question where it came from, however after watching where our food came from in the video, I am not as likely to be eating at fast food places as often. I think that it is pretty unrealistic for people to buy organic foods on a regular basis because of their price and inconvience. However, changing the food market is truely in the hands of the consumers so more people should be educated about the food that they eat.
ReplyDeleteI agree with both of you fine fellows (Mitchell & Carl) you guys i can easily relate to. everything you two said in your blog post were right. its going to be hard for me going to the store and buying a bag of Sun Chips and not looking them at the same way. were going to get through this time i promise you both with are combined strenght we can become stronger the carl words stronger then anyone ones words speak out reach a hand show that you care.
ReplyDeleteI like what you said about not buying an organic chicken for $9 more. I think that is the reality of the situation. People think it is not worth it to buy more expensive food that is healthier for you, and that is the downfall of the organic business.
ReplyDeleteAs taylor already touched upon, it is ridiculous that we should have to spend all that money to put something healhty into our body. In fact we are able to make robots and 3-D tvs but we can't figure out what is good to feed our own bodies. Shouldn't our goverment be stepping in and raising the price of the bad food so people don't eat it, and making healthy food more affordable. Oh wait, our government is running the slaughter houses.
